DETERMINE FIT

Let's see if we're a good fit for each other.

We like to build meaningful, long-term, and mutually fruitful partnerships with our clients. This is only possible if we work with good people on products with real potential.

At Simple Fractal, we evaluate three main areas when considering new clients and products to take on:

Product

  1. Does the product solve a real-world problem?
  2. Do you have domain expertise in the problem area?
  3. Why hasn't this product been built before? Why now?

Workflow

  1. Are we able to communicate well with each other?
  2. Are you open to feedback from us?
  3. Do you have an overall execution strategy?
  4. Are you willing and able to respond tactically to new information and challenges?

Financial

  1. Do you have the budget necessary to kickstart a MVP without running out of gas?
  2. Do you have access to more capital should you need it?
  3. Are you comfortable paying for time and materials as opposed to fixed price?

Why We Don't Do Fixed Price

At Simple Fractal, we believe fixed price arrangements are only appropriate for non-bespoke work. When building a new software product, it's important to be nimble and respond to user feedback. Fixed price models require fixed specs upfront, which effectively means making the most important decisions with the least information.

We Do Retainers

What we've found works best are retainer-based structures. Here, you book a certain engineering bandwidth for a certain period of time - e.g. 2 engineers for 3 months.

  1. Keeps things simple and transparent about spend rate.
  2. Builds a collaborative atmosphere and working relationship.
  3. Remains agile so that engineers can be efficient by factoring in new information.

Often, we will also exchange a portion of our cash fee for equity, since our goal is to partner long-term and help make the product successful.
